My favorite July 4th Moment

The last 24 hours in southeast Michigan have been filled with thunder and lightning storm. It is ironic how Grandpa Geno's 1st July 4th in heaven has been filled with "fireworks" in the sky. It makes me think that he is spending this holiday celebrating with a few of his favorite people up in heaven.

As I was driving home from work tonight and watched all the fireworks in the distance, I couldn't help but think of my favorite July 4th memory. The details are far from precise, and I will try to explain it the way I remember it with a * to identify the details that 20* years later are a little fuzzy...

From the way I remember it... I was 8* years old and we were living up at the cottage* for the summer. Everyone* went to Van's Beach* to watch the July 4th fireworks over Lake Michigan. We set up a blanket on the beach and my mom and I laid next to each other and watched an extravagent fireworks display. What I remember most is my mom and I taking turns pointing out our favorite fireworks. It seemed like every firework that went off was better than the last, and it all culmunated in a spectacular finale.

Mom - I am not sure that you remember this particular moment, but for me it was a moment that will last a liftetime. I look forward to Matthew and Alex having the opportunity to share a similar moment with you in an upcoming July 4th.
Happy July 4th!

  3. I have so many special memories of the 4th; watching fireworks over the Bay and wearing glow in the dark necklaces. I think our boys are going to top our favorite 4th memories in the years to come.

  4. Nick,
I do remember sharing fireworks with you and hoping you loved them as much as I did..I still do.
Can't wait to share them with Matthew and Alex, too. What I learned with all of you over the years was that in order for you to enjoy them you needed to be old enough that the "big booms" didn't scare the daylights out of you. I think it was about 3 or so that you began to appreciate them.
    Can't wait!!!
